How many shoe boxes fit in a 20ft container?
A standard 20ft shipping container can hold roughly 2,200 shoe boxes. But the real number depends on box size, stacking, and whether you're shipping loose or on pallets.
- Stacked to ceiling
- 2,200 boxes
- Palletised (2-high)
- 1,800 boxes
- Container volume
- 33.1 m³
- Box volume each
- 7,920 cm³
The dimensions
| Length | Width | Height | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shoe box (standard) | 330 mm | 200 mm | 120 mm |
| 20ft container (internal) | 5,898 mm | 2,352 mm | 2,393 mm |
Loose packing fills about 65% of the container volume. Organized stacking with boxes aligned in rows and columns achieves 80%+ utilization.
Practical tips
Orientation matters. Shoe boxes are rectangular — rotating alternate rows can eliminate gaps between stacks.
Weight isn't the constraint. Shoe boxes are light (0.5–1.5 kg each). A full 20ft container of shoes weighs well under the 21,770 kg payload limit.
Master cartons change the math. If shoe boxes are packed in master cartons (typically 10–12 pairs per carton), count the master cartons instead.
